Top 3 Best Comedy Podcasts

In this Podcast Blog, I will discuss, in my opinion, the top 3 best comedic podcasts.

3. Flagrant - Andrew Schulz, Akaash Singh

The Flagrant podcast, named accordingly, is unfiltered and unapologetic when it comes to the style of this, more show like, podcast. I have watched Flagrant for a while now and seeing the progression of this podcast snowball into what it is today is incredible, but not surprising. initially seeing Andrew Schulz making other guest appearances on podcasts, I recognised how funny he was and the talent he brings to comedy. His calm and collected attitude that he has on stage makes him one of the best podcast hosts in my opinion, not that he is the best interviewer when he has guests on, however his comedy is seamless in the transition to podcasts and he can make jokes from any topic that arises. Shulz teaming up with another young comic - Akaash Singh - who is a young, likeable, and up and coming comedian makes for a great balance on this podcast where they can make jokes and maneuvers through topics flagrantly.

The Flagrant podcast is gaining more traction, the more videos that are being put up however have always had superstar guests over the years. now as the podcast industry gains more viewers, the ties Schulz has within past guests and in comedy, allows the podcast more of an edge to becoming one of the biggest in the scene. Their most popular upload is from around 4 months ago featuring Joe Rogan, in a light we don't often get to see Joe in, that has accumulated 11 million views. Joe embraces the flagrant style and gets wild during this podcast which contrasts to how he usually is with some guests on his show.

I first seen Andrew Schulz on the Joe Rogan experience, so when they link up it is always exciting for me, but to see how far Schulz has came, and his influence now within comedy and podcasting is great to see and I have no doubt they will continue to grow with the guests and streams they are pulling in.

2. This Past Weekend - Theo Von

Theo Von is from a small town in Louisiana, and is a unique comedian who has become incredibly more popular in the last few years through his podcasts, his comedy and his guest appearances on other podcast shows. Theo runs his own podcast - 'This Past Weekend' and had a shared podcast with comedian Brendan Schaub, called 'The King and the Sting'. Whether Theo is on his own or with a guest, his off-the-cuff humour is so quick and random however hilarious and distinctive, which always makes for a great watch. Theo will have you howling at his one-liners or stories from someone from his town, while also giving you that real and personal feeling from his podcasts. Theo has a great skill of making his podcast relatable and making any situation into a route for comedy, which makes his show unlike any podcast out there.

Theo has had some great guests on his show, with one of his most popular podcasts being with Jordan Peterson. Jordan Peterson is known for being an intelligent man with sometimes controversial takes on serious conversations, and in a video that now has over 4.5 million views on YouTube, Jordan talks to Theo about serious (and non-serious) topics while, in true Theo Von fashion, Theo has them both howling laughing. It's this comedic skill that even with serious guests, Theo can keep the same style of podcast that his made him such a fan favourite in the podcast community.

Currently, Theo is still creating podcasts weekly and through the last year has blown up on TikTok with nearly every video he puts up getting more than a million views. These small clips of funny podcast moments have integrated into the way TikTok is received and worked immensely for Theo and his podcast to gain new viewership.

1. The Church of What's Happening Now - Joey "Coco" Diaz

Joey "Coco" Diaz was born in Cuba and raised through the 60s and 70s in New York and New Jersey, Joey's wild and unconventional life has been unique in experience, and mind blowing for many viewers through the years. Joey's incredible story telling skills, being able to recall minor but important details, while hilariously expressing stories is why he has made a great career not only as a favourable podcast host, but also as a fantastic comedian. Joey's wild energy on stage, transitions perfectly into his podcast where he can keep that intense hilarity when having rants or having a (slightly) normal conversation.

Joey has had some incredible guests like Mike Tyson, Jon Bernthal and Bill Burr come through to 'The Church', and not to mention some of his comedian friends, Joe rogan, Theo Von, and the late Ralphie May. Joey and his friend/co-host Lee Syatt ran 'The Church' from early September 2012 to late August 2020 when they decided to end the podcast due to complications with Covid-19 and the hosts wanting to move away from Los Angeles.

Joey and Lee both went their separate ways, however both are still podcasting with Joey running a new podcast from his home called 'Joey's Joint'. 'Joey's Joint' is a great podcast and feels a bit more personal now with Joey being older and back where he grew up in New Jersey, however 'The Church' running for so long and being as iconic as it was will always be my favourite comedic podcast.
